Los Angeles County has seven jails under its administration: Men’s Central Jail, Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Century Regional Detention Center, Pitchess Detention Center-East, Pitchess Detention Center-North, Pitchess Detention Center-South, and North County Correctional Facility. LA County has the largest jail system in the nation and had the highest COVID-19 infection rate in the nation. Over the past ten years the average daily population counts have ranged from 14,000 to 18,000 incarcerated people, which means that more than 14,000 people are typically incarcerated in LA county on a given day.
